Coons, Benjamin Franklin

Ben­jamin Franklin Coons, mer­chant, was born in St. Louis, Mis­souri, in 1826, the son of David and Mary Coons. He led wagon trains to Santa Fe in 1846, 1847, and 1848, and by Sep­tem­ber 1848 had estab­lished him­self as a mer­chant in El Paso del Norte and else­where in Chihuahua.

Hawkins, 1st Lt. William Deane

William Deane Hawkins (April 18, 1914–November 21, 1943) was a United States Marine Corps offi­cer who was posthu­mously awarded the United States’ high­est mil­i­tary honor — the Medal of Honor — for heroic actions and sac­ri­fice of life dur­ing the World War II Bat­tle of Tarawa.
